For Cheryl, the Singer songwriter tradition goes back several generations to the mountains of Floyd Virginia in the "Indian Valley." It is told that folks would walk for miles to hear Cheryl's Great, Great Grandmother, Delphia Criner sing her songs.

Pictured above are the lyrics to "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone," written by Delphia Criner while she was dying of TB in a sanatorium in Salem Virginia, back in the 1930's. A.P.Carter collected the song, and took it back to Maybelle Carter, of the Carter Family, to learn.
